A European Technical Approval (ETA) consists of an approval, by a qualified body, for the marketing of a product in the European Community.
The ETA is a documented evaluation of the performance of a construction product, mainly based on specific guidelines (ETAG).
An ETA is not a "certification", but a "specification"; improperly speaking, it is essentially equivalent to an approval under a harmonized EN standard and is valid individually.
The Regulation defines: "An ETA is a positive technical assessment of the suitability for use of a product for an intended use, based on the satisfaction of the RE of the works in which the product is used".
