CE Marking Transportable Pressure Equipment (T-PED)

Directive 2010/35 / EU - π marking (pi-Greek)

The Directive applies to the design, manufacture and conformity assessment of transportable pressure equipment.

The scope of the T-PED CE marking covers various equipment, including all pressure vessels, their taps and other accessories; tanks, battery vehicles/wagons, multi-element gas containers (MEGCs), their taps and other accessories; gas cartridges (UN No. 2037).

CSI is an accredited and notified Certification Body (NB 0497) for the issue of the CE T-PED marking; it has been operating in the sector since 2005.

T-PED equipment

The application of the Directive provides for compliance with the requirements established in Directive 2008/68 / EC, in subsequent updates and its Annexes, of the international agreements relating to the transport of dangerous goods by road (ADR), of the regulation on the transport of dangerous goods by rail (RID) and the Europe Agreement concerning the transport of dangerous goods by inland waterways (ADN).

For example, LPG cylinders, transportable gas cylinders, transportable cryogenic containers, equipment and accessories for LPG and other gases, valves for transportable cylinders, tanks for LPG and for the transport of dangerous goods fall within the scope of certification.

Certification path

  • Approval of the prototype and subsequent specimens.
  • The manufacturer submits the project documentation to CSI in order to be approved; after the documentary examination the specimen (prototype) is subjected to verification in the presence of CSI auditor in order to issue the T-PED certification (prototype approval certificate).
  • After the approval of the prototype, any other model made by the manufacturer on the same project must be subjected to examination and testing to verify compliance with the Directive.
  • Following the initial checks, the certified product must be subjected to periodic and intermediate checks, and if it undergoes repairs to exceptional checks.

Oversight of the applicant's internal inspection service (IS)

As an alternative to the approval of the prototype, when required by law, the manufacturer can submit its quality system and its operating procedures to CSI, which verifies the application of the controls and tests on the product in accordance with the ADR Regulation. To assess the correct application of the system, CSI carries out at least two surveillance visits per year.

Compliance review

This is the procedure that applies to equipment manufactured prior to Directive 1999/36 / EC, at the request of the user, to assess the compliance of transportable pressure equipment with the T-PED Directive.

The manufacturer:

  • must apply for π Marking
  • must submit the preliminary design and technical documentation to CSI for approval; in the case of IS Service, it must present the quality manual and operating procedures
  • must perform a check / test in the presence of CSI auditor
  • must provide CSI with the documents to complete the technical file
  • receives the T-PED Certificate from CSI
  • draws up EU declaration of conformity
  • affixes the π marking, followed by the identification number of CSI NB 0497.

In the case of the applicant's internal inspection service (IS), surveillance visits on the product / production following the steps indicated above are foreseen to maintain the certification.
