Marine Equipment Certification (MED)

Directive 2014/90 / EU - Marine equipment (MED)

CSI operates in the sector of marking the main marine equipment provided for in the Fire Protection category of the MED Directive.

The MED Directive 2014/90 / EU (and its subsequent amendments) covers the main equipment and materials that are intended to be used on board seagoing (non-military) vessels. It is therefore both equipment for radio communications and navigation, as well as materials for fitting out the ship itself and equipment for fighting fire.

The distinctive mark for these products is the “Timoncino”. The technical rules applicable to marine equipment come from three sources: the Convention for the Protection of Life at Sea (SOLAS), the resolutions of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and European standards (EN).

The certification of marine equipment follows the scheme of the Modules envisaged for the directives of the New Approach.

CSI is Notified Body (identification number 0497) for the MED directive by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport - General Command of the Port Authority Corps for most of the products falling within the Fire Protection category of Annex A of the MED Directive and operates for the issue of certificates according to the procedures set out in Modules B, D, E, and F.
