The Directive applies to the design, manufacture and conformity assessment of pressure equipment and assemblies subjected to a maximum allowable pressure PS higher than 0.5 bar. The scope of application of the CE PED marking covers various equipment, including vessels and tanks, pipes, safety valves, steam boilers; even assemblies made up of several pieces of equipment are subject to the Directive.
CSI is an accredited and notified Certification Body (NB 0497) for the issue of the CE PED marking; has been operating in the sector since 2002.
The PED Directive provides that all equipment / assemblies, in the area of application with a pressure higher than 0.5 bar, must be evaluated to identify the risk category, the applicability of the Essential Safety Requirements (RES) and the methods of verification and certification required by the Directive. For example, heat exchangers, pressure filters, tanks, fixed tanks, valves and other safety accessories, pipes and sketches, boilers, fire extinguishers and fire-fighting systems, pressure skids, industrial refrigeration systems and hydraulic systems.
The Directive introduces a classification for pressure equipment into four risk categories, from I to IV defined by the Object of Certification (vessels, pressure equipment with hearth, pipes), Fluid contained (liquid, gas), Dangerousness of the fluid. Depending on the physical parameters (pressure, volume / DN, temperatures), the increasing risk category I, II, III and IV is defined.
