CSI, thanks to its Food Packaging Materials laboratory, is recognised in the packaging sector as an authoritative reference point for testing activities on packaging materials, in particular those in contact with food and those for the pharmaceutical and food sectors. Conformity, according to European and international legislation, is verified on packaging of any composition by managing any type of material: all tests are carried out in compliance with the main technical standards such as UNI, ISO, DIN, GB, ASTM, BS. These conformity can also be communicated to the market through voluntary process and product certification.
The laboratory also has various instruments capable of performing physical and mechanical tests: the approach is recommended not only during the design and verification of the specifications, but also in the problem solving field.
The import of plastic films or finished packaging falls within the scope of specific directives and regulations, such as the REACH regulation. CSI is able to verify the presence of substances of very high concern (SVHC) and verify compliance with the restrictions set out in the annexes of the Reach Regulation (Reg. N° 1907/2006).
From today, Italian manufacturers in the packaging sector will also be able to apply to CSI for the tests provided for by UNI EN 13432, the standard that defines the characteristics that packaging must have in order to be considered biodegradable and compostable.
Finally, secondary packaging, during shipment, must meet the requirements of integrity, reliability and safety.
CSI carries out tests to verify the performance and protective effectiveness of packaging during transport (with any type of vehicle) and throughout the distribution cycle, according to national and international standards and specific protocols defined internally by the companies. These tests are the only tool and the only guarantee that the packaging and its contents arrive at destinations in optimal conditions.
